Creative Portrait Shoot

I was so excited to work with Alana Troopland (Insta: alanalandtroop) on this Portrait Session!

Her model agency, Ophelia Management (Insta: ophelia.mgmt) reached out to me for a portrait shoot and I was so excited to collaborate on something new that she could add to her modeling portfolio.

I wanted to do a 90s styled look where Alana wore a simple white tank top and basic blue jeans. To add more characteristic to this look, I wanted to make it look dreamy. I took one of my lens filters and put a very small amount of vaseline in the outer circle of the filter. This kept Alana in focus and clear while the gradient around her was blurred and dreamy. I absolutely love how it turned out.

Since the vaseline was on my lens filter and not my actual lens I was able to screw that off and take photos without this blur too. We had so much fun playing around with different poses and stances to get the simple 90's feel I was looking for.

This next look we wanted to incorporate a mirror to make this multi-dimensional. I knew I wanted to have a photo where Alana was looking into the mirror putting on red lipstick. When I saw this dress she had brought, I was so excited! I usually ask my clients to send me photos of their outfits before a portrait shoot, but sometimes they bring extra clothes. We decided this dress was the perfect fit for the shoot. I used a gold mirror I usually have hanging around the studio for makeup/stylists/clients to use before we start shooting. I borrowed the smaller mirror for more close-up looks. I loved the idea of Alana holding it above her so I could get a different angle of her face. The mirror was heavy, so we had to do it quick but they turned out beautiful and Alana did great!

Our last look incorporated some pink tinsel I got from Amazon. I wanted this to be a sort of slumber party look, super pink, super fun. This pink silk matching two-set was perfect and the white boots added a Nashville style to it as well. I used synthetic lighting for this looks so I could get an almost flash looking lighting. I wanted it to be direct and bright so her earrings and the tinsel would shimmer.

Thank you Alana for such a new and creative shoot!
