The incredible female country artist, Lillee Bay (Insta: lilleebay) reached out to me about a shoot to promote her new EP. I love all of my clients and every type of shoot I do, but female musicians I have a soft spot for. With only 16% of country artists being female, I love the ability to support women in this industry and watch them grow after our shoot is over. Lillee was amazing to work with. Her red hair matched her red boots and I wanted that to come to light in this shoot. With the blue sky and white farm, these primary colors really made the final photos into something easy for the eye to digest and encapsulated the country barn aesthetic she was looking for.
While walking around the farm, I found this old barn with textured wood. Textured backdrops are my favorite things because I think it adds a unique element and creates a more interesting final product. This shoot was during the hot months of summer so it was also great to find a shady spot to shoot in. Direct lighting can be fun for certain vibes and I love working with such, but the shade offers even lighting that's easier to work with.
This final location was something Lillee had found! Being a country artist, she really wanted to lean into the barn aesthetic and this empty horse stable was perfect. We were still able to get some of that blue sky behind her while she posed on the red fence which I loved because it pulled together some of what our first location had with the complimentary colors. As you can see in the photo on the far right, we did play around with some direct lighting and shadows. The eye and lips sticking out from under the shadow between her fingers was something I loved about this shot!
Thank you Lillee Bay for this shoot! Check out her music on Spotify and support a local female country musician!
